Hi everybody and welcome to the universal truth .Today I am going to share “how to balance your mind under stress." 


 Today I would like to introduce our chief guests, those two Buddhist monks, here. Thank you very much. A warm welcome to everyone, and Dr. Chandana, would you like to give it a warm welcome? Thank you very much. A warm welcome to everyone and today we are privileged to have venerable Tiththagalle Anandasiri thero and Sunanda thero on the Anandasiri thero is the chief prelate of the methbo seven international meditation centre galle sri lanka


 And Sunanda Thero is a chief disciple of Venerable Tiththagalle Ananda Siri Thero and, as some of you are aware, he's a world renowned spiritual teacher and he's a YouTube sensation as well. And Sunanda Thero, in his past life, was a renowned lawyer, and he is here today to give a wonderful translation of the sermon. So we would like to invite all the participants to sort of ask questions and share their thoughts and to sort of engage in a meaningful spiritual discussion. So thank you very much for being with us today.  I would like to warmly invite  Sunanda Thero and and Thiththagalle Anandasiri Thero to start the session



good evening everyone so we were  collective to have this discussion so my suggestion was to initiate this uh dialogue with questions so i would be happy if you can start with the question itself to begin with in fact i can start with a brief explanation finding out a balance in our mind and through that balance teaching will start again so how can one balance their mind now if we take the outside world and also the inside of us that means our mind in both spheres we can find a duality there are two extremes when we thoroughly study and observe but if somebody only see the climbing part of it if he is unaware about the lead he will give them he will definitely get exhausted of thinking about the height but if one is aware about both the climbing part and also the lead then his mind will be at a balance because he won't get exhausted by the climbing because he knows there's a leap afterward and he will not be overjoyed by finding the lead because he was already in the exercise of climbing so in the night it is the darkness existing but if someone generally what happens with an average human being is that when there is darkness he would curse to the darkness sometimes when there is light he will be overwhelmed by the light but if someone is aware about both day and night both light and darkness no one that such a person would not curse the dark now when we take the very basic uh biology in our body when we inhale definitely there will be an acceleration the inhale and exhale happens together but if someone is only as likewise in every aspect of our life there is always the duality exist but if someone is only aware about one perfect then he will never be happy with his life




so with that basic start now I you can raise questions all right so i would like to invite the audience to ask any questions as you like you can unmute your mic and raise the question in whichever language you are comfortable so that we can support with the translation as i have a well is it clear this might sound clear yes okay so my question was when we talk about duality let's  if i look at a balanced mind there should also be a state where the same person will have a unbalanced mind that in itself will also have a duality so is it a pressure on the person to always be in a balanced state or easy considered originally i don't know if that's the right word but enlightened if he's also comfortable with the unbalanced state of mind if someone is attached to the balanced state of mind definitely he will be pressurized by the imbalance nature of the mind but here what we talk about as balance uh is not what is meant by in the general context now it is because the words cannot express the state of liberation state of enlightenment we are in a difficulty to address it interpret it clearly but here what we discuss what we identify as the balanced mind is understanding the both extremes once we are aware more and more crystalline clear about the both extremes then there will be a state of mind which we consider it as a balance now let's say now when there is let's say there is a duality as the balance and the imbalance mind now if someone is attached to the balanced mind he will definitely reject reject the imbalance but the enlightenment state of mind would not have such a feeling because he is not attached to either the balanced mind neither he rejects the imbalance so generally an average person would like to have a skilled mind a balanced mind but here what we understand as the enlightenment there is no uh there is no attachment to the parent's mind neither there is a rejection to the imbalance line it is a pure understanding do you understand so it is I I'm and I understand things if I'm able to picture it in my mind right so I'm looking at two areas of balance and unbalanced section and then I'm like an observer who is away from it but I'm able to see both sides of it for me i understand things better if I imagine things in my mind picturing it so what I'm based on what you told me my understanding is that there is an state where the mind is balanced also there is a safer as the mind is unbalanced but as a truly liberated person is someone who can just sit behind yes the start there will be an observation but once once he is enlightened there

won't be anything as such observing or not observing now it is not that we reject or accept the natures of the human mind our mind it is that we understand the both extremes and our anyone would like to ask a question it could be a simple question that's fine please unmute the mic yeah go for it hi everyone uh this is I think a very good session during this hard time uh I would like to ask some suggestion that I am I feel like I am in a very depressed situation as you all know that we are in the kovid world and each and every one we have some struggles but especially uh a newly married person and I left my family with within the three months just after my marriage and I stuck in Australia and parallelly I'm managing my study i feel like a serious issues in managing their depressions now so would you like to offer any spiritual advices that would be great okay um is if you get rid of your state of depression that will happen in the moment you accept whatever has happened to your life which have occurred in your life are the things that you have faced in your real life right now now by uh praying to a god or by asking for the sun or the moon you cannot change that nature but at the very moment you accept whatever you happened in your life as it is then the depression will start to depreciate so the reason for depression is our inability to accept whatever happening in our life at this moment and also the cure for depression and the depression will be over in the moment that we start to appreciate our life as it is there is so if one can reduce the time where they have where they are ready to appreciate their life the incidents they have faced in the life then the time that you suffer from depression will be reduced we might survive in the next moment


and the people that we associate with will exist in the next movement or sometimes they will die may so likewise this entire nature the universe the earth is full of uncertainty but if one can understand the nature of uncertainty in our life in the universe then there is nothing to accept either to reject that we will appreciate whatever happens so let's try not to have anticipations about life and let's try to appreciate whatever happens in our life as it is do not get upset about it because that is also the nature of but if you look into india the thousands of people are dying today because of poet and they are losing their loved ones they are losing their life so there are a lot of people who are suffering more than you in their life because of this tandem now at least you can appreciate what you have achieved so far now at least you have been newlywed and at least you have migrated to Australia now for some people they cannot even think about a marriage at this time some people they cannot think about a way to live so be happy of what you have achieved everything around you at the end of the pandemic but even that moment you can be happy even though you have lost everything you're still surviving because that is now you know the nature of this virus it is evolving in every moment so nobody is safe even there is a cure that nobody is safe because still there is a chance that we might die by a new strain of the same virus so at the end of the day we can be happy for surviving and there is no point of lamenting all the things that we are losing and there is no point of thinking about loss of profits in life in a nature like this do we have more questions okay sure do you have some more questions thanks thanks it means a lot to me and then you understand the stuff so i can see a couple of other people joining us a little late so the thing is you can just unmute your mic and just freely ask away any questions you as you like Abhishek

 yeah hello dr miller hi hi actually i wanted to know sir that we all apart from this covet situation we all are thinking like we all are in a race in achieving success like we every day make goals and try to achieve it on the other side we are we have family sometimes people are going abroad from their home country to study outside how to cope up with this balance because aside from achieving goals and making up your personal life you have to also give time to the family and in this race i think the balance is getting disturbed and that's what i want to know where the balance is foreign foreign so what you have to understand is it doesn't matter how much of expectations goals that you have in your life it doesn't matter how much of things that you have to take care about your family what you have to live only this moment for so every human being in this world every animal on this earth every tree every plant on this planet will have a lot of expectations might have a lot of rules but all of them can only live in this present moment so if you have lost that is your past if you have to win that is in the future but in this moment what you need whether you're going foreign if you have a flashback from your childhood you might have had a lot of anticipations lot of expectations in your life but if you go through your life clearly you will see there's a story that uh one person went to meet a guru a meditation teacher and asked him who is the most important person in your life you saw me only now we haven't met before this is the first time that we are meeting with each other you might have uh had a lot of people around you since your childhood 




but you don't claim them as important but you're claiming me as the most important person in your life what is the reason why the teacher said yes you're right I have received a lot of help from many people I have associated many people in my past but at this moment you're the one in front of me you're the one I'm associating with therefore you're the most important person of my life so it is very difficult for an ordinary person to understand the meaning of the story because when the people have attachments when the people have connections with people with other people then they cannot get treated from their past they cannot get it from their future they cannot live in this moment now if one can have a self analysis about his past about his life he would definitely understand it doesn't matter how much of how much of expectations I had in my life what I have been doing is living in this moment each and every time indiana associate with yourself with everything to break up your links or anything but i ask you to leave all those things all those burdens behind for a moment and just laugh for this moment just either if you want you can cry for this moment and live for this moment foreign so then you can be happy with this moment you can be peaceful with this moment then you will not feel the tension you will not feel the pressure of the targets that you have to achieve in your life so sir thanks a lot anyone else like to ask a question hi i would like to ask a question um I'd like to know a little bit more about the monk and his spiritual experiences and how he got to the stage where he's at right now which I'm assuming is um as you describe enlightenment as we would um think of enlightenment as a description of um how maybe he's um more he's acting from a place of awareness instead of um thinking about problems and thinking about the past I would like to know how he got to this stage of enlightenment and his spiritual practices was it a gradual change or was it something that he realized um in a moment and I would also like to know how he lives his daily life um does his does he still have thoughts um does he still respond to his thoughts or do does these thoughts affect what he does on a daily basis um yes that's my question I'd just like to know a little bit more about the monk and his experiences okay I will try to justify because there was a lineup of questions there for and i was associating with many teachers and I've been trying to do what that they have prescribed to me so I have so a drastic change about the way we awakening the nature of getting attached to the concept from our mind and the nature of rejecting thoughts in our mind will be reduced the values that we have for ourselves will be reduced struggle to keep and maintain an ego for ourselves will reduce and then we will stop doing that tricks with and the cunning behavior we deal the way the cunning ways that we deal with the society will be





reduced so now I can respond to my thoughts if I want if I do not want I cannot respond to my thought because previously the mind used to control me now the mind is in full control of myself I'm using the mind as a tool is but there was a nature that we feel happy and if you make a loss then there was a nature that we feel sad but now there is no such happiness or there is neither sadness there is the mind does not go to any of those but you cannot think about what thank you um I have another question um can I know a little bit about um how once you've reached that stage how karma ties in with those with the rest of his life now once you gradually reduce the exception or the rejection of the thoughts being generated by your mind then your mind will be at a peace and the mind will start to cool down gradually and gradually you will be be apart from the work of karma thank you I have a question just a quick question uh when it comes to the whole concept of liberation I mean we are for having just our mind to understand it then what we know as far as what we've gathered as knowledge now we we are being we know that this is something that we cannot understand using the mind but my question is how do we identify that yes this is happening and how does the mind recognize it and not just not not like some other thought um doesn't mean that you lose it doesn't mean that you cannot have a relative will be changed so after some time you will realize there has been a change in my entire life so foreign now if you are fully enlivened if you have understood this clearly you will lose that value that you have given to words when you hear words it will not trigger you it will not arouse you you will not feel any difference there won't be any value to any comment any statement any word now let's say as an example there is a child and he has been given a check value of one billion dollars he has no idea about the value of each indiana so when they see the chick they are they actually they're astonished but still the child is unaware about it he has no chance so likewise it is similar like that now you know the people they are overthinking but here there won't be any overthinking and the people when something happens to the life the people always struggle to recover from that and they will complain about it but there won't be a complaint from your end if you are enlightened so you will see a difference between the previous life and the life that you enjoy right now the change that you are foreign when something happens in his life he will start to overthink actually he wants this he won't suffer much from the problem itself but the suffocation will be amplified by the part of overthinking but if you're enlightened that overthinking process will not be there so the application won't be there foreign is that the time that it takes to accept the life as it is the things which happens in our life as it is now for an ordinary person it might take years or sometimes months sometimes weeks sometimes days or hours to accept things that they have happened they have encountered in their life but for an enlightened person he will accept it then and then now if you take the physical aspect of it you won't feel any weight inside the head it's like an empty vessel by thinking over thinking and getting attached to what they think with all those things their head is so uh it carries a carries a lot of weight inside of a now you know now when you put a drop of water on a lotus leaf the leaf will not retain any water it will just fall off likewise when something goes in I know for sure that

you are listening to this in a very blissful state of mind but just forget it now at least try to reduce the values that you have given to words then you will start to feel the discord or if not if you cannot lose the values that you have given to words by a single word your life can be no more questions it's same stop with Chandana maybe we can wrap up the session now yeah I think so because uh we have got few minutes more and uh this is the last chance for anyone to just make a comment or just ask a question uh if you do not have any further questions we can wrap up decisions to wind up the session I would like to propose uh make a suggestion to you do not try to search myself neither you should try to search what the enlightenment is your goal should be understanding your own mind there are sessions discussions that we have done and 

 the pressure the tension uh the weight of your mind will be lost and you will start to feel the bliss all right uh I think uh this is time to wrap up the session
